National Information Security Conference NISC-2014 and MoU signing Ceremony, Karachi


Riphah Institute of Systems Engineering- RISE, Riphah International University and Pakistan Navy Engineering College PNEC- NUST jointly organized the first ever National Information Security Conference (NISC-2014) on 28th March 2014 at PNS Karachi. The Conference was targeted to attract professionals from forces and corporate sector along with students to bridge the gap and educate them with the latest trends and happenings in the domain of Information Security. The event was endorsed by ISACA, Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), Pakistan Information Security Association (PISA), (ISC)2 and EC-Council. The conference saw an overwhelming response with over 300 people registering and participating. Riphah played a pivotal role in organizing and execution of the conference.

The event was inaugurated by Commandant PNEC -Commodore Zahid Iqbal, SI (M), who welcomed the Chief Guest Commander Karachi-Vice Admiral Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain HI(M), Guest of Honour  Pro Chancellor Riphah International University - Hassan Muhammad Khan, dignitaries from Navy, keynote speakers, professionals, academicians and students. The keynote speakers of the conference were leading professionals in Information Security and they shared their research and ideas with the audience over the latest developments in their fields. Dr. Saad Naeem Zafar (Director RISE) and Mr. Khurram Javed (Asst Director RISE) were amongst the key note speakers and presented on advance information security topics of Botnets and Social Engineering respectively.  The audience was enlightened by the interactive and visually rich presentation from all the keynotes.
Pro-Chancellor – Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan addressed the audience with the closing remarks and emphasized on the role of academia and universities to take initiatives and bridge the gaps in the ever evolving field of Information Security. He highlighted the importance of industry driven research and practical experience of academicians to keep pace with the rapidly changing trends in Security. He also acknowledged the efforts of organizing teams from RISE and PNEC for making this national event successful. The event was culminated by shield distribution from Commander Karachi. 
Post event PNEC and Riphah International University engaged in a MoU signing ceremony where Commandant PNEC and Pro Chancellor Riphah did the honours committing to collaboration in Academics, Research, Professional trainings, mutually organizing conferences and welfare works. The MoU stated of long term relationship of mutual welfare in all relevant domains for PNEC and Riphah.
The organizing committee comprised of Mr. Obaid ur Rehman, Mr. Khurram Javed, Mr. Moazzam Iftikhar, Mr. Ahmed Iftikhar, Mr. Muhammad Babar Tiwana under the guidance of Dr. Saad Naeem Zafar. Also acknowledgments to Deputy Commandant- Commodore  Ather Salim, Commander Dr. Nazir  Malik, Commander Dr. Akmal Ataullah, Commander Rajab Ali Jaffri for their commendable efforts and contribution to the conference.
